first_imgHundreds of dead fish were found floating in a canal on the Essequibo Coast, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) on Saturday morning and residents in nearby areas are complaining of the unbearable stench emanating from the decaying fish.Reports have indicated that hundreds of fish have died over the past few days in the conservancy canal that runs between the Richmond Housing Scheme and the La Belle Alliance Housing Scheme.Dead fish in the canal that runs between the Richmond Housing Scheme and La Belle Alliance Housing Scheme, Essequibo CoastAccording to several residents in those areas, the water is stagnant and they are unable to use the water, as they previously did for household chores and other activities. Guyana Times was told that the area where the fishes are floating is polluted with garbage as well as other items that persons appear to have dumped into the waterway.Meanwhile, Agriculture Minister Noel Holder, on Saturday told this newspaper that officers from the Ministry are presently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.“It cannot be due to the dry season that so many fishes are dead and there is water there. I just received a message about this and have asked my Ministry to investigate to determine what caused such a situation. That was after the Scot made a comeback in June at Queen’s Club following almost a year out with the injury that required surgery in Australia in January.Two-time Grand Slam winner Azarenka, who won the Cincinnati Open in 2013, will return to the women’s draw for the first time since 2016 as she continues her comeback following a prolonged legal battle over the custody of her son Leo last year.”The resumes for Vika and Andy really speak for themselves,” tournament Director Andre Silva told the organisers’ website.”I think many tennis fans are eager to see each of them back on the court, and we are pleased to offer them both wild cards to play the Western & Southern Open.”A further seven players – three men and four women – will be handed wild cards for the tournament, which begins on August 11, around two weeks before the US open starts on August 27.(With inputs from Reuters)last_img read more
