Sunday’s ‘Meet the Press’ showed one of the many reasons Republicans need to lose Georgia runoffs

first_imgThat tells you what to expect if they hold the Senate on Jan. 5: Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell will keep upholding the basic values Trump has brought to the table. McConnell will obstruct and blockade and prevent President Biden from getting anything done for the nation. Republicans will hurt the public in order to hurt Democratic election chances going forward, just as they are right this instant hurting the public by not challenging Trump to accept his defeat and begin the transition process. Republicans will do anything to win. But Democrats have to find a way to beat them. Republicans have spent the past four years doing Trump’s bidding, whether because they liked what they got from him enough to overlook what they didn’t like, or because secretly even those of them who sometimes pretend disapproval at his worst abuses are in their heart of hearts on board with every bit of Trump’s Trumpiness. And now, with national security and pandemic response on the line in a presidential transition, they’re still unwilling to challenge him. Be it simple fear, be it agreement with his efforts to overturn the results of the election, be it those two Georgia Senate seats, Republicans are not willing to do the right thing.- Advertisement – – Advertisement –last_img read more

Donald Sterling appeals ruling that OK’d Clippers sale

first_img Newsroom GuidelinesNews TipsContact UsReport an Error He has two other lawsuits pending, including a federal suit against the National Basketball Association over the ban and sale.City News Service contributed to this report. Seeking to block the expected $2 billion sale of the Los Angeles Clippers, attorneys for Donald Sterling on Friday filed legal papers asking the court to intervene and reconsider the case. However, the request was denied because a final ruling was still pending from the judge who cleared the way for the sale to move forward. In documents filed in appellate court, Sterling’s attorneys argued that if “the sale of the Clippers is not stayed, the team is likely to be sold before any appeal could be brought or decided, rendering Donald’s appeal rights hollow.”The Clippers sale to former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer is scheduled to occur no later than Aug. 15, but “could occur as soon as today (Friday),” the filing notes. center_img The legal filings in the case were expected.Judge Michael Levanas ruled last month that Shelly Sterling had every right to oust her husband as a trustee of the entity that owns the Clippers and sell the sports franchise to Ballmer. Levanas also ruled that any appeals on Donald Sterling’s part couldn’t stop the sale, citing Section 1310(b) of California Probate Code.In a statement Friday, Donald Sterling’s attorney Bobby Samini said he was seeking a “review of the Trial Court’s ruling on various issues including the 1310(b) Order and further asks for a Stay pending the Appellate Court’s review.”The proposed sale to Ballmer came after the NBA imposed a lifetime ban on Donald Sterling and initiated a forced sale of the team after the Clippers owner was heard making racist remarks to a female companion on a leaked audiotape.Donald Sterling has denied he is racist and said he intends to fight the sale of the basketball team, which he’s owned for more than three decades.last_img read more
