13 May 2010About 90% of the more than three-million tickets made available for the 2010 Fifa World Cup™ have been sold, the Local Organizing Committee says.“I have no doubt that come kick off all the matches will be sold out,” Local Organising Committee CEO Danny Jordaan said at a press conference in Pretoria to mark one month before kick-off on Tuesday.In 2006, Germany sold around 92% of the total number of tickets available, and with just 30 days left before the start of this year’s World Cup, it is likely that South Africa may also end up recording a similar figure.Jordaan said most South Africans had used banking group FNB and over-the-counter sales to purchase their tickets. “FNB and the over the counter system really proved to be popular among South Africans,” he said.World Cup firstFifa introduced the over the counter sales model, a first in the history of the World Cup tournament, after it had emerged that the majority of South Africans were struggling to get tickets via internet applications and other ways initially in place.Most of the high profile matches including the opening match, semi finals and the final have been sold out.Hosts South Africa lead the ticket sales with more than 1.1-million tickets purchased in the country. This coming weekend, the South African Music Awards (SAMAs) will take a trip down memory lane in celebration of its 25th anniversary, under the theme: 25toLife. The SAMAs present an opportunity to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of specialists in the local music industry.The awards ceremony and celebrations have noticeably evolved over the last 25 years. The first-ever awards show was hosted at the Alberton Civic Centre, later moving between Johannesburg, Sun City and Durban. This year, the SAMAs return to Sun City on 1 June 2019.In honouring the harmonious legacy created over the past 25 years, the hosts have decided to bring out a few big names in the entertainment industry; game-changers who have had a part to play in the advancement of artists and producers in the entertainment space. Seasoned radio and TV hosts Bob Mabena and Melanie Bala will be co-hosting the awards. The pair are well-known for presenting Studio Mix, a popular music show that was aired on SABC1 in the 1990s. They will be joined by other hosts throughout the night, like hip-hop star Khuli Chana and media personality, Nomzamo Mbatha.Over the years, the awards have paid homage to forerunners like Miriam Makeba, Manhattan Brothers, Dolly Rathebe, Dorothy Masuka. This year, a special honour will be bestowed upon late hip-hop star HHP, as well as legends TKZee and Mango Groove.The industry continues to take form, by appointing experts to address critical issues, while harnessing fresh talent eager to make a footprint.The SAMAs are hosted by The Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA). The show will be aired at 20:00 on SABC 1 on Saturday 1 June. Not only is WordPress used as a blogging platform, but as a content management system. WordPress.com and WordPress.org handle more than 520 million unique visitors per month, said Mullenweg. Now, many of those blogs will be more accessible to iPad users.According to the announcement, the iPad version of WordPress.com blogs will be powered by HTML5 and OnSwipe, bringing an “app-like” functionality to iPad users. Already, about 750,000 daily pageviews come from iPad users and the company says that “with the launch of Apple’s iPad we have seen the future of computing and it is touch.”The addition of an iPad-optimized view will allow blog owners to customize background images, logos, fonts and skins for iPad visitors, as well as disable or enable the iPad view entirely. However, there are more options that can be sourced from their backend farm. You could pick up interesting hybrids also. For example the phycus (a decorative rubber tree), which took 15 years to grow, is actually four trees woven into one. The store is spread over two floors and packed from wall to wall. “We stock hand made cultural handicrafts from across the world,” says Reshuma.”It all started when my husband, a marine engineer used to bring back handicrafts from different places and we looked for a space to display them.” The store stocks a range of handicrafts from Africa, Papua New Guinea, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Kenya and Tanzania.The eye catchers here are the variety of masks and chimes which dot the walls of the ground floor and can be seen even while you’re driving past. You could also pick some gift items, home decor and even some furniture. “We recently stocked some unique shelves and stools made of used boats,” says Reshuma. She travels across the world, spends time with villagers who custom make the products for her.
