Navy Again Delays Critical Work On USS Gerald Ford

first_imgThe Navy has again delayed its completion of critical work on the new aircraft carrier the USS Gerald R. Ford, Breaking Defense reported Tuesday.James Geurts, Navy acquisitions secretary, announced the delay, saying the primary issue is its new weapons elevators which are magnet-driven rather than by cables on Nimitz-class carriers. The new elevators can lift thousands of pounds of munitions to the deck more quickly than older carriers. The carrier is billions over budget and months overdue. Two of the carrier’s 11 elevators are currently operational as the ship remains on track for going to sea in October while work on the inoperable elevators continues. It had been slated to sail in July, but that was postponed when it became clear the elevators would not operate. The new elevators are a leap in technology. The Nimitz-class elevators move 10,500 pounds at 100 feet per minute while the Ford-class elevators lift 20,000 pounds at 150 feet per minute.Photo by Mass Communication Specialist Seaman Marissa Bacon ADC AUTHORlast_img read more

State Rep Dave Robertson His Colleagues Help Tewksbury Take Official Possession Of

first_imgBOSTON, MA — Below is a recent press release from State Representative Dave Robertson’s office:August 2nd, 1967 was the beginning of a long story between Tewksbury, the State, and a piece of land bounded by Livingston Street and forever deeded for recreational purposes. Transferred under Act 497, the Now, 53 years later, the parks, fields, and trails known as Saunders Field are officially part of the town of Tewksbury thanks to the work of the state delegation and town.“As a child I played, or tried to play, baseball on those fields. I watched the 4th of July there, rode my bike from the Middle School to the recreational department, and even attended the haunted house,” said Representative Dave Robertson (D-Tewksbury) upon the transfer of the deed to the town. “The entire time I had no idea that it was not officially town land until I was older, which left me perplexed. Because of this it was a special honor to work with Senator Finegold and Nguyen on getting this issue wrapped up and securing Livingston permanently for the town.”“Transferring the Livingston Street Fields back to the Town of Tewksbury was one of my top priorities upon coming into office in January,” added Senator Barry Finegold (D-Andover). “Working together with Representatives Nguyen and Robertson, we were able to resolve a decades-old issue in a matter of months. These 35 acres are invaluable to the community, and I’m thrilled that they will now be officially owned and controlled by the town.”“I am very proud to work on behalf of the residents of Tewksbury with my colleagues,” noted Representative Tram Nguyen (D-Andover). “I am especially delighted that we were able to work together to get the deed transferred and make certain that the Livingston Street Fields that the residents of Tewksbury have long enjoyed now officially belong to the town.”The Saunders Recreational Fields, often known to locals as the Livingston Street Fields, are the crowning jewel of the Tewksbury park system. Encompassing 35 acres the land is host to tennis courts, lacrosse fields, football fields, the majority of baseball fields, and more. Recently the town and state have recently made major investments into the center, including the opening of a water park and fitness court, with state budget funding allocated to the improvement and upgrade of parking amenities for those using the unimproved lots. The fields are also utilized for large-scale community events, such as the 4th of July, and are the most frequented recreational area for the town.“This is great for the town,” said Selectman Jay Kelley. “We have great programs and opportunities, and this helps secure a future for our town. I look forward to seeing many more generations of kids growing up and playing there.”Like Wilmington Apple on Facebook. Follow Wilmington Apple on Twitter. Follow Wilmington Apple on Instagram. Electricity tariff in Karnataka hiked by 33 paise per unit

first_imgThe electricity bills will get more expensive in Karnataka as the Karnataka Electric Regulatory Commission (KERC) has once again increased a hike of 33 paise per unit in the tariff.KERC chairman Shambhu Dayal Meena said that the five electricity supply companies (Escoms) had proposed an average hike of Rs 1.20 per unit (17.37 per cent) for all the consumer categories. But the commission allowed an increase of 33 paise per unit (4.8 per cent).Meena said that the hike has been entailed due to a 16 per cent increase in power purchase cost, 20 per cent increase in operation and management costs, 12 per cent increase in interest and finance charges, 22 per cent increase in depreciation and other pending deficits amounting to over Rs 2,000 crores. The KERC also said that it was encouraging Time of Day tariff, when the tariff will see a hike of Rs 1 per unit during peak hours, both in the morning and evening. The consumers who utilise power during non-peak hours will be eligible for a subsidy ranging from Rs 1 to Rs 2 per unit, reports The Hindu.According to reports, the commission has also reduced the number of slabs in the urban and rural areas, with an increase of 25 paise. So, a BESCOM consumer in urban areas will pay Rs 3.75 per unit instead of Rs 3.50 for the usage of 30 units. And electricity consumption beyond 30 units will attract a higher slab rate. The urban areas will have to pay an additional 5 paise as per the hiked rates of BESCOM when compared to the rural areas as Bescom consumers will pay Rs 3.65/unit for the first slab, whereas other Escoms will charge Rs 3.35/unit to Rs 3.60/unit in the rural areas.last_img read more

Attracting Readers to Your Blog

first_img A blog isn’t a website. Simply repurposing your site content, press releases or brochures on your blog means death in the blogosphere. When blogging for business, you have to change what and how you communicate. According to an April 2006 study by blog search engine Technorati, about 75,000 new blogs are created daily. There are about 1.2 million blog posts every day, or about 50,000 posts each hour. That’s an overwhelming number of messages vying for the attention of blog readers. To catch their attention, you’ve got to connect with them, not just throw information at them. How can you do that? Be a storyteller from your industry. Share your personal insights, favorite resources and relevant statistics. Reveal your name and the position you hold in your company. Blog readers don’t want a company voice; they want a personal one. And the voice doesn’t only have to be yours. Ask several key employees to post periodically. This spreads the workload while giving prospects a more personal look at your team. Getting personal is great for business. Before you get too personal, though, make sure you relate the right kind of information. A ski resort owner could absolutely discuss her crazy crashes on the slopes, and a pet store owner can certainly share silly stories about his pets. Those postings are relevant. But an online diary won’t likely bring in new business. Focus on making your blog a fun and informational industry resource. If you do, other blog and website owners will link to you quickly. A company blog has a better chance of getting links than a company site does. Not only will you score direct traffic from these links, you’ll also get greater link popu-larity, which boosts your blog in organic search results. To further boost your search engine rankings, use keywords in your blog posting titles that are relevant to your business. Effective blog marketing isn’t simply setting up a blog. Invite your future customers into your conversation with what you say and how you say it.
